Nutrition for gastritis: what can and cannot be eaten?
Gastritis is one of the most common diseases today. Frequent snacks and meals, a variety of fast food, poisoning of poor quality food - all can cause gastritis. This is probably why many people suffer from stomach problems. But how can they be treated?
This does not require continuous medication at all, the most important thing in the treatment is a correct and well-chosen diet that does not cause mucosal irritation and aggravation of the disease, but at the same time saturates. the body with all the necessary macronutrients and vitamins.
Articles of Association
The main function of a gastritis diet is to follow a diet that ensures normal digestion. The (daily) treatment schedule for gastritis should include:
- 90-100 gr. squirrel (and 60% animal),
- 50-80 gr. fat (75% of animals)
- 300-320 gr. carbohydrates.
Diet rules for gastritis:
- Knowledge of the measure. In the case of gastritis, the saying "a slight feeling of hunger should remain after a meal" is more relevant than ever. First, the feeling of fullness occurs only 10-15 minutes after a meal, and on the other hand, an overflowing stomach is not able to cope well with its functions, especially gastritis.
- Diet. First, you need to follow your food intake (at the same time). Second, in the case of gastritis, the food should be fragmented, 4-5 times a day, while snacks should be refused (they trigger "unnecessary" secretion of gastric juice and reduce its production during breakfast / lunch / dinner, which violates food processing and assimilation processes. ). Reading while eating, watching TV and "running on the go" should be categorically excluded.
- Relax after a meal. You should rest for 15-20 minutes after each meal (no need to sleep). You can read a book or listen to music.
- Chewing food. Prolonged chewing of food (at least 25-30 seconds per piece) contributes to a more thorough mechanical processing of the food, which facilitates the work of the patient’s stomach. In addition, hunger is satisfied more quickly in this case (which prevents overeating). Rejection of complex foods
The total energy value should be 2200-2800 kcal.
Nutrition with high acidity
With this form of gastritis, it is recommended to follow a diet designed to spare the stomach thermally and mechanically and to reduce gastric secretion.
Authorized products:
- cakes, cheesecakes, dumplings, oven baked cheesecake;
- milk, in particular tea, all kinds of fermented milk products, including yoghurt and yoghurt, fresh curd;
- fish, meat or chicken soup cooked in cereal broth;
- dry white biscuits, vegetables and butter, milk soups with cereals or pasta;
- steamed omelette, eggs in a bag, vegetable dishes in mashed potatoes, puddings, souffles, weak tea, sweet fruits and berries in jelly, in the form of creams and compotes;
- veal, lean beef, chicken in the form of meatballs, pudding, zraz, steamed slices (eat lean, cooked meat 1-2 times a week in free pieces).
Prohibited products:
- fatty mushrooms and broths;
- carbonated beverages;
- smoked meat with spices;
- raw vegetables, pickles, pickles, spicy vegetable snacks, lemon juice;
- black bread.
The diet aims to aggravate high acid gastritis to normalize intestinal and gastric function by limiting thermal, chemical and mechanical stimuli.
Nutrition is low in acidity
The goal of a low-acid gastritis diet is to stimulate the production of gastric juice (in moderation) and to mechanically spare the stomach.
Prohibited foods for hypoacid gastritis:
- pearl barley, legumes, millet restriction;
- fresh bread, baked goods ("heavy" food for the stomach, making chemical and mechanical processing difficult);
- oily and salted fish;
- vegetables and fruits with coarse fibers (white cabbage, turnips, radishes, cucumbers, peppers), mushrooms;
- fatty meat, meat with fascia (films), canned food, smoked meat (inadequate mechanical processing of food, excessive release of hydrochloric acid);
- spicy and salty cheeses, milk - neutralizes hydrochloric acid;
- grain or thick-skinned berries (raspberries, strawberries, red currants, gooseberries, figs);
- spices and herbs (irritate the lining of the stomach) as well as chocolate, grape juice, alcohol;
- pork, beef, lamb fat and lard (not absorbed due to low hydrochloric acid production, difficult to digest products).
Food should be taken after the start of the secretion of hydrochloric acid, i. e. in the first stage (advertisements or programs about the food, beautiful food pictures, "tasty" conversations can provoke the release of gastric juice).
Diet for gastritis in the acute stage
Particular attention should be paid to the diet for acute-stage gastritis. The requirements for the products are the same for all types of pathology, but are more stringent.
In the acute form of the disease is recommended:
- low fat cottage cheese;
- yesterday’s white bread and no pastries or muffins;
- only lean meat, cooked and mashed or chopped;
- soups exclusively on vegetable soups;
- non-acidic compotes and gels;
- in the form of a soft egg or steam omelette;
- vegetable purees from the baby food offer, it is also good to borrow fish and meat purees from a bottle from babies;
- teas or infusions without sugar.
During the period of immediate aggravation from the menu, they are completely excluded:
- products with preservatives, flavor enhancers, artificial colors;
- raw vegetables and fruits;
- milk and any dairy food;
- pastries of all kinds, except yesterday's bread;
- margarine, cooking oil and butter;
- barley pearls;
- all kinds of beans and beans.
In addition, general restrictions on products and their preparation remain in place. Usually, the crisis will go away in 3-4 days and then the diet will be more varied, in line with the general recommendations for patients with gastritis.

I know . . .?
What is allowed and what is not? List of basic foods and beverages.
- Fish - only low-fat marine fish such as pollo, cod, hake. Of the river fish, perch and pike are the best. It is better if canned fish and fried fish are completely rejected, all the useful properties of fish are lost during their production, and many spices and preservatives, carcinogens, are more than obtainable. Like meat, it is best to simmer the fish, limiting the spices.
- Coffee - it is absolutely impossible to drink black coffee on an empty stomach in case of gastritis, even in large quantities, especially with increased stomach acidity. At low acidity, coffee or cocoa with milk is allowed, but only in limited quantities.
- Meat - can eat gastritis, but only low-fat breeds - beef, veal, chicken, rabbit. The steam slice is especially useful for gastritis as the meat is chopped and steamed. If it is only stewed meat, it should be chewed very carefully and not overused as all meat products put a strain on the stomach. Of course, neither smoked nor uncooked smoked sausages and sausages can be used in case of gastritis.
- Cheese - spicy or too salty cheeses are not allowed in gastritis, even ordinary hard cheeses should be consumed in limited quantities in small slices.
- Bananas - Can Bananas Be Used For Gastritis? It is a healthy fruit that is low in fiber, soft, easy to digest and contains many of the nutrients your body needs. And although the 5th diet prohibits fruits such as dates, bananas, many gastroenterologists believe that their moderate consumption can’t hurt, and bananas can and can be eaten with gastritis.
- Watermelon is something you can eat for gastritis, but very little. Only 1-2 slices can be eaten at any acidity.
- Melon is almost the heaviest plant product not only for the stomach but also for the pancreas and gallbladder. Even the digestive system of a perfectly healthy person has a hard time coping with melon, so anyone suffering from gastritis should give up such a dubious product.
- Chocolate - it is better to give up this product completely.
- Nuts, seeds, legumes - no type of nut should be used for gastritis, the same goes for seeds and legumes.
- Honey can be used because it has wound healing properties and is an enriched and useful product. Nevertheless, it is moderately good, especially since many people may be allergic to beekeeping products.
Is it possible to get rid of gastritis completely?
In mild cases, superficial gastritis, it can be completely cured if you lead a healthy lifestyle and follow the following strict rules, which prove to be a rather difficult task in practice:
- Meals should be 5-6 times a day, at certain hours, the last meal should be at least 2 hours before bedtime.
- Continuous adherence to diet, no dry food, fast food.
- Avoid smoking and drinking.
- Eliminate overeating and long breaks from meals.
- Lack of physical overload, constantly monitor the condition of the body, do not overwork, do not overload yourself, sleep at least 8 hours a day at night, and preferably 1 hour during the day.
It is also worth working on your own to develop resistance to stress (stress resistance) or to rule out psycho-emotional overload.
